Dear Governor Perdue:
Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Georgia applauds and fully supports Senate Bill 148, the Saving the Cure Act. We are committed to the passage of this bill for the following reasons:
- Umbilical, placental and amniotic stem cell research provides every type of stem cell needed for therapy and healing without moral concerns.
- There are many types of worthwhile stem cell research that do not raise ethical objections. Stem cells from amniotic fluid are showing great promise, having sought-after pluripotent cells.
- These methods of obtaining stem cells are medically effective, proven and promising without violating ethical standads.
- Scientific research provies that the moral choice is also the healthiest and most effective way to find cures.
Thank you, Governor Perdue, for your bold leadership last year by establishing through executive order the Governor’s Commission on Newborn Umbilical Cord Research and Treatment. Senate Bill 148 is good public policy for the citizens of Georgia and will carry forward your efforts. In addition, if passed in its current language, the state of Georgia has the opportunity to become a national leader in advancing non-destructive stem celll research.
CWA stands behind Senate Bill 148 and lends our full support to its passage.
